Candelabra Chandelier By Charles Wilson110€
Sydney-based designer Charles Wilson (b. 1968) graduated in industrial design from the University of Technology Sydney in 1991. He has since built a strong reputation in Australia and internationally. Since the Powerhouse acquired his 1993 Swivel chair in 1996, Wilson’s refined furniture has been produced by Australian company Woodmark for both local and global markets, showcasing the value of collaborations between innovative designers and manufacturers.
Wilson has received several prestigious awards, including the 2006 Bombay Sapphire Design Discovery Award, and his work has featured in exhibitions such as the Freestyle travelling show by Object Centre for Craft and Design. His design process blends computer modelling, freehand drawing, and prototyping.
Though best known for furniture, Wilson has also created smaller domestic objects marked by formal simplicity and inventive function. His 2004 canisters have cleverly balanced lids, and his modular candelabra—made of two flat-packable components held by a magnet—was a runner-up in the 2005 Bombay Sapphire Award. It was later produced by Danish brand Menu, winning an Australian Design Award and the Powerhouse Museum Selection in 2007.
